Deceased Person’s Payments

What happens to the deceased person’s payments, loans, insurance, and savings?

Updated today

Payments

  • Direct debit agreements, e-invoices, and other recurring payments will be stopped and deleted.

  • Suppliers will usually send paper invoices by post instead. This is often easier for the next of kin to manage.

Loans

  • If the deceased had loans with Bulder, loan payments will continue as long as there are sufficient funds in the account.

  • Mortgage payments will continue until the property is transferred or sold, provided there are enough funds in the account to cover the payments. Together with the bank, a plan must be established within 6 months regarding what will happen to the mortgage—either a transfer of the loan to a surviving party or the sale of the property.

  • If the deceased was a co-borrower, guarantor, or provided collateral, please contact the bank for further guidance.

Insurance

  • If the deceased had insurance policies, please contact the insurance companies to manage future payments or any changes. You should also obtain an overview of any personal insurance policies that may be eligible for payout.

Funds and/or Shares

  • If the deceased held mutual funds or shares, the bank can either transfer these holdings to the heir(s) or arrange their sale. Please note that any gains from the sale of funds/shares are taxable and must be considered in the estate settlement. The bank must receive a probate certificate, valid authorization, and identification before any transfer or sale of funds and shares can be carried out.

Online Banking and BankID

  • The bank will revoke the deceased person’s BankID, online banking access, and security devices upon notification of death.

Funeral Expenses and Payment of Bills

  • The bank can cover funeral expenses, electricity, and insurance payments until a representative and estate account have been established.

Bills to be paid can be sent by post to:
