Identification in the BankID app

Why have I received a message saying I need to re-identify?

Users of the BankID app who have not previously scanned their passport or national ID card directly within the app must now complete a new identification process. This is done to enhance security and confirm your identity using the latest technology.

When do I need to do this?

You do not need to take any action until you receive a specific notification in the app. We are sending out notifications in phases, and you will be notified when it is your turn.

Does this apply to everyone?

No, there are currently some exceptions:

  • Foreign citizens do not need to do anything yet.

  • Minors (under the age of 18) do not need to do anything yet.

What if I donโ€™t have a valid passport or national ID card?

You have plenty of time. If you lack valid identification, you can book an appointment with the police now to order one. This ensures you are ready when it is your turn to verify in the app.

Will I lose access to BankID if I don't do it immediately?

No, no one is losing their BankID access yet. This is a controlled rollout, and you will be given ample time to complete the process once you have been notified.
